Los Angeles Screenings Update

LA Screenings 2023 is in the books.

So what are some of the takeaways?

First off, attendance was high despite all the uncertainty in our industry and world.

There’s the writer’s strike, shrinking budgets, and entertainment industry layoffs, but despite that, the international buyers and sellers were out in force. At the Korean pavilion, many Turkish distributors and Latin American buyers were there to see what the networks debuted and share their own formats and finished content.

Initially, many speculated that the strike might create new opportunities for unscripted shows. The 2008 writer’s strike brought about an unscripted “golden age” where many top unscripted format powerhouses were created but that’s not happening in 2023. Perhaps but now there is so much internationally produced content readily available, that basic need is met.

Yes, deals were done but it seems that many companies are in a wait-and-see mode. Either holding back new unscripted shows or stockpiling projects to get them ready for when the market does return.

Next up for us is Realscreen West. If you’re heading to Dana Point, hit us up or schedule a meeting with us here!

And if not, we’ll be sharing our insights from that event.
