INSCA's ‘SPP Partners Day’: A Global Stage for Korean Unscripted Content
By Chris Weatherspoon
The International Non-Scripted Content Association (INSCA), founded just a year ago, is actively working to establish itself as a key player in the unscripted content world. After a successful first conference in November 2023 (read about it here), INSCA is gearing up for its next big event: the SPP Partners Day: Non-scripted Content Session. This two-day event, taking place on June 3rd at the SBA S-Plex Center in Digital Media City and June 4th at the Kensington Hotel Convention Center in Yeouido, is designed to connect Korean unscripted content creators with international producers and broadcasters.
A Match Made in (Unscripted) Heaven
The event is a collaboration between INSCA and the Seoul Business Agency (SBA), focusing on business matching and networking opportunities within the unscripted content industry. INSCA's General Affairs Director Tak Hoon Kim explains, "We see this event as a catalyst for the Korean unscripted scene. There's so much untapped creative potential here, and 'SPP Partners Day' is about giving it a global stage."
Who's Coming to the Table
The SPP Partners Day will feature a diverse lineup of experienced professionals from the unscripted content world, including:
MA Geon Yeong: A leading Korean producer known for hits like Please Take Care of My Refrigerator and Sing Again
PARK Cheol Hwan: A top producer at Channel A, responsible for popular shows like Heart Signal and Youth Star
Rosemond Perdue: President of Breakthrough Now Media, an expert on international formats and judge for the 2022 and 2023 Emmy Awards.
Corinna Vistan: The creative mind behind original content at VIU, a major streaming platform in Southeast Asia, and a former producer for Marvel Studios
Danny Fenton: CEO of Zig Zag Productions, a powerhouse in unscripted content with a portfolio spanning BBC, Channel 4, MTV, and more
Catalina Ramirez: Co-Head at Propagate International, covers the sales and distribution of many successful formats such as The Masked Singer
Tak Hoon Kim notes, "We've curated a diverse group of participants who bring a wealth of experience and perspectives to the table. This exchange of ideas is what will spark truly innovative collaborations."
More Than Just Business
While the primary focus is on business matching, the event will also explore the academic side of unscripted content, discussions and presentations from industry experts and scholars. This reflects INSCA's commitment to fostering a well-rounded understanding of the genre. As Tak Hoon Kim puts it, "We want to nurture not just the business side of unscripted content but also the creative and intellectual aspects that make it so compelling."
A Global Vision
INSCA has big plans for the future, including the potential launch of the "Siheung International Non-Scripted Content Festival" and the establishment of international branches. They also welcome members from all over the world, offering benefits like access to events and a quarterly academic journal. Tak Hoon Kim shares his vision: "Our goal is to create a truly global community where unscripted content creators can thrive, no matter where they are based."
